Recall Information: We have been notified by our supplier that one of their Northeast brand conventional spring mixes tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Out of abundance of caution a recall is being conducted for all products processed on the same day as the positive sample. All products are coded with a Best if Used by: Jan 15, 2011.

Reason: Kellogg Company is implementing a voluntary recall of certain breakfast cereals due to an uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the package.

While the potential for serious health problems is low, some consumers are sensitive to these uncharacteristic off-tastes and smells and should not eat the recalled products because of possible temporary symptoms, including nausea and diarrhea.

Basic Food Flavors Inc. of Las Vegas, Nev. has recalled its flavor enhancer called hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) because the product may be contaminated with the bacterium Salmonella Tennessee. At this time, no illnesses associated with this contamination have been reported to the FDA.

Basic Food Flavors sold its HVP to other food manufacturers and distributors for use in producing other food products. Only HVP from Basic Food Flavors is associated with this recall.

On March 30, 2009 Setton Farms of California recalled pistachios produced at their facility on or after September 1, 2008. The contamination involves multiple strains of Salmonella. It is not yet known whether any of the Salmonella strains found in the pistachio products are linked to an outbreak.

We are currently checking with our suppliers to determine products that are affected by this recall. We will update this site with specific information as soon as it becomes available.

The items were removed from store shelves after the manufacturer informed Giant that some aspects of the manufacturing process did not meet their food safety standards and the products may have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death.

Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms.

There are no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product.

Do not open or puncture any unopened can of the recalled product.
Dispose of food that may be contaminated by placing in a sealable bag, wrapping another plastic bag around the sealable bag, and then taping tightly. Avoid splashing and contact with the skin. Wear rubber or latex gloves when handling open containers of food that you think may be contaminated. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today lifted its advisory that consumers not eat certain tomatoes from certain areas. After a lengthy investigation, the FDA has determined that fresh tomatoes now available in the domestic market are not associated with the current outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul.
