POTOMAC'S GIANT FOOD CELEBRATES STORE RENOVATION WITH TASTINGS, LIVE MUSIC AND PRIZES

July 14, 2009 (Landover, MD) - Giant Food celebrated the re-opening of a renovated Potomac, MD store with a weekend full of events including a ribbon cutting, tastings and entertainment. The reopening of the store at 7919 Tuckerman Lane is part of Giant's three-year Project Refresh investment plan to re-model or replace some 100 Giant stores throughout the Maryland, D.C., Northern Virginia and Delaware region.

Re-opening activities included gift card and cookie giveaways, raffles for Giant brand gift bags and a live jazz band. Giant's Passport program, available for customers to explore the new features of the store and have their passports stamped along the way, was in full swing with customers receiving free reusable Giant shopping bags once they completed their passport. One of the more popular activities at the re-opening was Taste of Giant, a new program which will run daily until August 7, 2009. Taste of Giant offers customers new ways to use every day items and opportunities to taste new foods before preparing them at home.

Shoppers at the renovated Potomac Giant store will discover new time-saving, convenient tools including Scan It! hand-held devices allowing customers to scan and bag their groceries while they shop, and ORDER IT! - Giant's "Delivision" digital kiosk - which allows customers to place orders digitally and continue shopping, then sends an alert when the order is ready. Giant's in-store chef, Tham- Noon Destisakdi ("Chef Tom" for short) will prepare signature Giant dishes, such as their special bruschette, for customers to pick-up and enjoy at home. Giant's fresh and locally grown produce program ensures customers that the fruit and vegetables they're buying are the freshest available. In addition to the array of healthy meal items, the newly refreshed Giant now carries hardware and household products making trips to the store even more convenient.
