GIANT FOOD PRESENTED $1.25 MILLION TO JOHNS HOPKINS’ CANCER CENTER DURING SUNDAY’S BALTIMORE ORIOLES GAME

June 29, 2009 (Landover, MD) – Giant Food presented a $1,250,000 donation to The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, June 28, 2009, on the field of Oriole Park at Camden Yards prior to the Baltimore Orioles game against the Washington Nationals. The donation is part of Giant Food’s Triple Winner game, an annual scratch-card promotion that raises funds for the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Each $1 scratch card purchased by customers is an instant winner, offering free products, gift cards or cash prizes of up to $10,000 and all proceeds are donated to children’s cancer research. This year’s Triple Winner scratch-cards sold out six weeks prior to the end of the program, slated for July 9, 2009. Triple Winner is one of the most successful causemarketing programs in the country, raising $1.5 million for children’s cancer research in the Baltimore- Washington area this year alone.

The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University has one of the most comprehensive pediatric oncology programs in the country. It is a recognized “Center of Excellence” for bone marrow transplants and includes specialized areas of expertise in brain tumors, sarcoma, leukemia and lymphoma. The Center’s pediatric oncologists, nurses and staff provide compassionate care to hundreds of children each year and the Center is consistently ranked as one of the top cancer centers in the country by US News and World Report.
