GIANT FOOD COMPLETES MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR REMODEL OF PARK 97 STORE

New logo, décor, technology and products to be unveiled at Aug. 22 reopening

August 18, 2008, Glen Burnie, MD... Giant Food has announced the completion of a multi-million dollar renovation to its Glen Burnie store located in the Park 97 Shopping Center at 7940 Crain Highway. With the completion of the store remodel, Giant's Park 97 customers will now enjoy a bright, fresh store with new customer convenience options, technological improvements, prepared food offerings and improved produce and perishable departments to go along with low prices everyday.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for Aug. 22 at the Park 97 store to celebrate the stores grand reopening following a 12-week remodel. Giant will also unveil its new logo and associate logo wear at the ribbon cutting celebration as part of the company's new brand initiative.

"We are excited about the renovation of the Park 97 Giant as part of our three-year Project Refresh investment plan to remodel or replace approximately 100 Giant stores," said Giant Food Executive Vice President and General Manager Robin Michel. "We invite our Glen Burnie customers to come see their renovated Giant which will have a new store environment to go along with great customer service."

The newly remodeled 55,000 square foot store features improvements to the produce and perishable departments as well as a new interior décor, including new store signage, and larger food and pharmacy departments. The Park 97 Giant also includes a new convenience meal area, where customers will find ready to go foods like sandwiches, salads and sushi, and an expanded selection of natural foods, including Giant's Nature's Promise brand of natural and organic foods.

Giant customers will also enjoy a number of new customer convenience and technological improvements including the following new features:

ORDER IT! - Giant's Delivision digital kiosk that helps customers avoids lines at the deli by allowing them to place their order digitally and continue shopping. The system alerts customers when their order is ready.

SCAN IT! - Giant's Easy Shop hand-held device that allows customers to scan and bag groceries while they shop.

Several new prepared food items will also be introduced at the Park 97 Giant including a new line of rotisserie chicken that's more than a pound heavier than Giant's previous chickens and new dessert offerings that were validated through consumer testing. In addition, the Park 97 store will feature an expanded selection of packaged deli salads, a new assortment of fresh hot and cold soups, new store brand entrees and side dishes and much more.

"Our Park 97 customers will find that their Giant has a brighter, fresher new look along with numerous improvements that will simplify their lives," said Store Manager Carl Stevenson. "As our remodel construction has been nearing completion, more and more Giant customers are already telling us how happy they are with their new Giant store."

Approximately 20 new jobs will be created in the remodeled store.

The Aug. 22 ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. and feature speeches from local elected officials and Giant Food executives. Grand reopening activities will take place throughout the day and will include entertainment, food sampling, prizes, reusable bag giveaways, and face-painting activities for children to celebrate the reopening of the Park 97 store. Proceeds from a three-day hot dog and soda sidewalk sale will benefit the Maryland Food Bank.
